San Francisco, CA. October 25, 2022 – Kaliber Labs has announced that Dr. Joseph Burns, a leading orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder surgery and the Head of Orthopedics at Wellstar Health Systems, has joined the company’s Surgeon Advisory Board.
“We are very honored to be working with Dr. Burns,” Kaliber CEO Ray Rahman said. “His expertise in shoulder surgery, clinical research, and surgeon education will be tremendously valuable to Kaliber as we continue refining our AI technology to improve the lives of both providers and patients in orthopedic surgery.”
Dr. Burns is the chief musculoskeletal officer at Wellstar Health System. With a long history of educational leadership, he has trained over 60 orthopedic sports specialists who now practice at the Mayo Clinic and throughout the U.S. and Canada. A Master Instructor in Arthroscopy through the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), he has developed and taught more than 25 courses for the Arthroscopy Association of North America and other orthopedics organizations. He has also published myriad textbook chapters and articles about shoulder conditions and treatments. For six years, Dr. Burns was named Teacher of the Year at Southern California Orthopedic Institute’s Sports Fellowship Program. He has also earned the distinction of California “Super Doctor” by a peer-reviewed selection process for ten consecutive years.
“As a surgeon who is committed to partnering with patients for the full scope of their treatment, I am excited by Kaliber’s vision to improve quality of care and the patient’s experience at every step, from diagnosis to recovery,” Dr. Burns stated. “Kaliber is building solutions to enhance the best that I can offer as a surgeon, while also identifying places where AI technology can do things that we surgeons can’t. This is a great opportunity for orthopedic surgery, and I am excited to lend support to Kaliber’s vision.”
